ABOUT US
We are homeschoolers in Ohio. I am Katherine and my daughter is Corinne and we live in Batavia, near Cincinnati. We did our first year of homeschooling in Ohio Connections Academy online public school, in 6th grade. Corinne had always attended Brick and Mortar, so this was our first time online and homeschooling.
We belong to a local social group that helps us organize more frequent and better quality socialization opportunities than B&M can provide. She is also in a co-op theater club, and Girl Scouts. We host the Clermont (OH) Homeschoolers Club, a secular, informal activity, chat & hangout club for homeschool families in the east Cincinnati area; Clermont County and vicinity. Our online schooling went poorly although just being at home was amazing!
The best decision we have ever made , after moving here from NY! The freedom is, well, freeing! That being said, we still felt like we were learning for tests and rushing through the lessons just to keep up. We were not able to really explore subjects that interest my daughter and that still felt limiting and restrictive.
She and I both felt like we would prefer to create our own curriculum and flow where learning takes us. I really wanted it to be our own and not be stuck in yet another box. I felt a little unsure of how to go about that, but I had already begun to research and compile potential curriculum stuff and we had a great informal social community of homeschoolers of all sorts here.
